Product Development

Product Dossier & Development Process

A Product Dossier is the complete definition of your supplement — what goes in it, what it must meet, how it is packed and how it must be made — written down before you ask anyone to manufacture it.

The deliverable

What the Product Dossier is

Most supplement projects start as an idea: an ingredient, a benefit, a product someone admires. An idea leaves every important question open, and each manufacturer you approach answers those questions differently — so their quotes describe different products.

The Product Dossier closes those questions first. It records the formula, the specification of every material, the quality and regulatory requirements, the packaging and the manufacturing requirements in one consistent structure, together with the reasons behind each decision.

TWMD develops the product with you, in whatever form it takes, and then brokers it to a contract manufacturer equipped to make it. The dossier is what carries the product from one to the other intact.

  • One definition. Every manufacturer you invite is asked to quote the same product.
  • Decisions on the record. Choices about ingredients, testing and packaging are made deliberately, not left to whoever quotes.
  • A reference that lasts. Samples, changes and later re-orders can be checked against what was defined.

Inside a dossier

An illustrative dossier preview

Illustrative example. A fictional product, written to show the structure of a dossier. It is not a customer’s formula, not a recommendation and not a complete specification.

The process

Develop → Source → Advance

  1. Develop

    Define your product with confidence.

    You bring
Your idea or existing formula, the customer you are making it for, and what it needs to do.
    The work
Ingredients, serving, dosage form, flavor, packaging and testing are decided and specified.
    The output
A Product Dossier: one complete definition of the product.
  2. Source

    Get competitive manufacturing proposals.

    You bring
The dossier, and any manufacturer you already work with or want considered.
    The work
TWMD takes the dossier to contract manufacturers suited to the product, asks each to quote against the same definition, and sets their answers side by side.
    The output
Proposals you can compare line for line.
  3. Advance

Bring better products to market, faster.

    You bring
    Your choice of manufacturing partner.
    The work
TWMD places the product with the manufacturer you choose, and the dossier becomes the reference for samples, approvals and any later change.
    The output
Production that starts from a product you have already defined.

Decisions, made once

The decisions a dossier settles

Illustrative examples. Each one changes what a manufacturer quotes.

  • Ingredient selection

Magnesium as oxide, citrate or bisglycinate: each form carries a different amount of magnesium per gram, so the choice changes cost and how many capsules a serving needs.

  • Serving size

One capsule or two, one scoop or half a scoop. It sets the fill weight, the count per container and the cost per serving.

  • Dosage form

Capsule, tablet, powder, softgel, gummy, liquid or another form. Each is made on different equipment and limits what can go in it, which is why the form is chosen before a manufacturer is.

  • Flavor

For a powder: the flavor system, the sweetener and whether both must be natural. Flavor work usually needs samples before it is settled.

  • Packaging

Bottle, pouch, jar or single-serve stick packs; the count; the closure. Packaging often decides the minimum order as much as the formula does.

  • Testing

Which tests are run on incoming materials and on finished product, and the limits each result must meet.

  • Manufacturing requirements

Batch size, expected annual volume, and any certification you require of the facility, such as organic or kosher.

Why it matters

Comparable proposals, an informed choice

Shopping an idea

Each manufacturer fills the gaps its own way: a different ingredient form, a different capsule size, different testing, a different container. The prices differ because the products differ, and the lowest quote may simply describe the least product.

Shopping a defined product

Every proposal answers the same dossier. What is left to compare is what actually separates manufacturers — price, minimum order, lead time, capability and fit — so you can choose a partner on the merits rather than on how each one read your idea.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

I already have a formula. Can I still start here?

Yes. The request asks whether you want to develop a new product or transfer an existing one. If your product is already on the market, you can choose to transfer it as-is, with changes, or ask for help deciding — and add its label or Supplement Facts panel as evidence.

What do I receive?

The deliverable of the Develop stage is the Product Dossier: the defined formula, material specifications, quality and regulatory requirements, packaging requirements and manufacturing requirements for your product. What your project needs is discussed with you after your request is reviewed.

Can I include a manufacturer I already work with?

Yes. TWMD brokers each defined product to a contract manufacturer, and a manufacturer you already know can be one of those asked to quote. Tell us in your request — there is space for anything we should know.

What happens after I submit a request?

The request takes about three minutes and needs no account. You confirm your email address before sending. Our Product Development team then reviews your request, and a TWMD team member contacts you about next steps.
